You Can Now Download BBC Shows From iPlayer

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has updated its iPlayer video-on-demand service so that smartphone and tablet owners in the UK can download its TV program for free.
BBC says all mobile devices will be able to connect and download from iPlayer with or without an Internet connection. These shows can be kept on the user’s device for up to 30 days. Once the user presses play, he or she has up to seven days to watch the rest of that program.

The new feature is already available for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, while Android support is expected to come “soon.”
BBC outlines three easy steps to downloading your favorite show:
  1. Tap the Download option on the program you want to save
  2. This program will then be added to your download queue
  3. The next time you connect to Wi-Fi, open the iPlayer app and the program will automatically start downloading to your device. Multiple programs can be recorded at the same time.
The BBC says there were 30 million requests for iPlayer TV programs via a mobile or tablet in July of this year, a year-on-year increase of 142%.
The iPlayer app can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store for free. Those who already have the app will be prompted to update the app for the new features.
